Rope and Rotor fieldwork vehicle set up in the countryside at dusk

About Rope & Rotor

On the ropes.
In the air.

Practical inspection experience, a different viewpoint and a closer look at what matters.

How it started

Two ways to reach it.One reason to look.

Our work started on the ropes. Drones gave us another way to see an asset — and new ways to share what we find.

We founded Rope & Rotor to bring those approaches together. The aim is simple: help clients see more, understand the detail and decide what to do next.

Based in Sheffield and working across the UK, we combine site work with imagery, 3D models and a straightforward, personal service.

The people behind the work

Meet the directors.

James Gunter

Director · Technical & digital

James brings a background in rope access, wind turbine work and offshore inspection. His NDT qualification covers thickness and lamination testing.

He takes the lead on the digital side — from drone capture and new software to processing data and building 3D models that clients can explore.

Mike Burton

Director · Inspection & planning

Mike’s background spans rope access maintenance and inspection across the UK, working on a wide range of structures and industrial sites.

He brings a practical eye to inspection planning, considers how to approach each job and pays attention to the details that can make a difference on site.

Our approach

The job comes first.

01 / UNDERSTAND

Start with the question.

What do you need to inspect, record or understand? We talk through the site, access and the information you actually need.

02 / CAPTURE

Choose the right approach.

Drone, rope access or a combination. The method follows the job, with the practical limits and site conditions considered from the start.

03 / MAKE IT USEFUL

Give the detail context.

Clear imagery, inspection findings or a 3D model — with deliverables agreed around how you intend to use them.

Let’s look at your project.

Tell us about the site and what you need to know. We’ll help you work out a practical next step.
